In 2009 Wisconsin Cheese Mart (around since 1938) had a a-ha moment. Why not do more than sell cheese by the pound? Now, as a result of the owners' ingenuity saunter into The Cheese Bar on North Old World Third Street and order cheese plates representing the state's best artisan creameries.

Favorites include the cave-aged cheddar or any of the Gouda cheeses produced by the Penterman Farm of Thorpe, Wis.

The shop is not only filled with cheeses of all shapes, sizes, colors, styles and tastes, but also free samples.
