Collection: Limburger Cheese
Limburger Cheese is one of the most legendary cheeses to ever come out of Europe, known for its bold aroma and surprisingly smooth, creamy flavor. Originally crafted by Belgian Trappist monks in the 19th century, Limburger quickly became a classic in German and Swiss households and is still cherished today by true cheese enthusiasts. Although there were 100's of Wisconsin cheese plants making Limburger cheese just 50 years ago, Chalet Cheese in Monroe Wisconsin operates the last Limburger cheese plant in the United States.
Don’t let its strong smell fool you—beneath the distinctive aroma lies a rich, earthy, and tangy taste with a velvety texture that softens beautifully at room temperature. Traditionally enjoyed on hearty rye bread with onions and a cold beer, Limburger is the ultimate “old-world” cheese experience.
